IDP shelters inundated by floodwater

Torrential rain the past few days has left several low-lying areas in villages north of Trincomalee town inundated by floodwater. Internally displaced families sheltered in welfare camps in Nilaveli village and other areas are under going severe hardships, civil sources said.

Mathumaiambal Government Tamil Mixed School located in the Alles Garden UNHCR refugee camp premises is surrounded with floodwater preventing students to enter the classrooms.

The school caters to the education needs of children of refugee families sheltered in the UNHCR refugee camp.

The road that leads to Nilaveli from east port town is under floodwater in several areas causing transport difficulties, sources said.
