British High Commissioner in Trincomalee

The British High Commissioner for Sri Lanka Mr. David Tahtham is currently on a visit to Trincomalee said sources in the eastern port town. The British envoy arrived in Trincomalee on Friday April 24 and is staying at the Nilaveli beach hotel.
Although the SLA's 22-1 brigade HQ is located in Nilaveli, the Liberation Tigers move freely after dark in the area said sources. The British HC met officials of the Trincomalee Young Men's Hindu Association (YMHA) Proctor K.Sivapalan, secretary of the YMHA C. Sivapathasundaram, Dr. E. Gnanagunalan and Trincomalee District Development Association Secretary S. Ganeshan last evening. He inquired from them about the security situation in the district said YMHA sources. The leaders of the YMHA asked him financial assistance to the All Ceylon YMHA for undertaking agricultural rehabilitation work in Jaffna. The HC said he would consider the request. Today he met some leading citizens of Trincomalee including the GA S.D Chandradasa and Trincomalee Women's Welfare Association President Mrs. Ranji Balasingham and visited the British admiralty cemetery south of Trincomalee. Meanwhile, Mr. R. Sambandan TULF MP for Trincomalee arrived in the eastern port town this evening. Local TULF sources were unable to confirm whether the TULF general secretary is also scheduled to meet the British envoy.
