Mothers of disappeared hold prayer on HR day in Jaffna

Members of Jaffna Mothers' Front (JMF) and Jaffna District Consortium of Humanitarian Agencies (JDCHA) Friday morning till afternoon held a prayer in front of the regional office of the Human Rights Commission of Sri Lanka (HRCSL) after lighting the flame in remembrance of their sons and daughters who disappeared after being arrested by the government security forces in Jaffna and its suburbs during 1996-1997 period, civil sources said.

Representatives of JMF and JDCHA later handed over two memoranda to the Jaffna regional co-ordinator of the HRCSL regarding the urgent need to bring a closure to the disappeared Tamil youths. The memorandum by the JMF was addressed to the Sri Lanka President Ms Chandrika Kumaratunge and that from JDCHA was addressed to the Chairperson of the HRCSL, sources said.
