[TamilNet, Friday, 07 January 2005, 12:16 GMT]
International Federation of Tamils (IFT), a consortium of expatriate Tamil organizations based in Geneva Switzerland has appealed to the United Nations Secretary General, Kofi Annan, to include in his itinerary a visit to the tsunami ravaged region of Mullaithivu in NorthEast of Sri Lanka, in a letter sent to the UN offices through the UNDP office in Colombo.

Kofi annan"World leaders, who visit Sri Lanka, avoid the north eastern parts of the Island and we are aware of the intense pressure on them by the President and the Foreign Ministry of SL to avoid Tamil regions." the letter said.

"We would like to call your honour, to visit Mullithivu and north eastern part of the Island of Sri Lanka to console and support the badly affected people. Your visit is important to us as that region is facing severe uncertainty on the question of aid and future mechanism for rehabilitation," the letter added.

157 Tamil organisations around the world, in Australia, New Zeland, Canada, USA, South Africa, India and Europe, have asked the IFT to request you to visit mullitivu and north eastern region, the letter said.
