SLA sources in Vavuniya said today that they killed eight members of the Liberation Tigers in a round up in Apparkaani in Olumadu yesterday around midnight. Olumadu is an interior village, 4 km. east of strategic Mankulam junction, on the Mankulam-Mullaitheevu road.
The latest fighting erupted as the troops of Jayasikurui at Olumadu were preparing to advance in the Northern direction towards Kilinochchi from Olumadu, said sources in the Vanni. Sri Lankan Army at Olumadu has made several attempts recently to advance in the western direction towards Mankulam junction. However, stiff resistance from the LTTE had stalled the SLA advance. Meanwhile the Voice of Tigers (VoT) said in its morning broadcast today that two LTTE fighters died yesterday in two separate incidents in the Vanni. LTTE fighters Mathan (Narenthiran Ramachandran, Batticaloa) and Vengaimaaran (Kathiravel Saminathan, Trincomalee) died in clashes with the SLA in Moonrumurippu and Ampakamam respectivley, the radio said.
