Tree planting, shramadana campaign mark remembrance day

Members of Trincomalee District Women Organizations and officials of the provincial ministry of education, provincial department of education and zonal education office Wednesday organized a shramadana campaign to clean the surrounding of Tsunami welfare centre located in the village of Sambaltivu, about five km north of Trincomalee district to mark the first month remembrance of people died on December 26 in the natural disaster, sources said.

Meanwhile Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) in Trincomalee Wednesday organized a tree planting campaign in Kanniya, a resettled village on the Trincomalee-Anuradhapura highway, about ten km northwest of Trincomalee town
to mark the National Mourning day. Mr.S.Kanaganayagam, co-ordinator of the TRO in Kanniya led the
tree-planting campaign, sources said. Resettled villagers participated in the event. In the morning religious observance was held in places of worship of all faiths and schools in the east port town. In the historic
Paththirakaliamman Temple students in large numbers attended the special prayers held by its chief priest Sri S.Ravichchandrakurkkal.
