Mannar Magistrate Mr.N.M.M.Abdullah Thursday disallowed the application seeking the release of all Indian fishing trawlers captured by the Sri Lanka Navy when poaching in Sri Lankan territorial waters and are currently kept in their custody at the naval camps in Kayts, Pallimunai and Talaimannar, legal sources said.
The application was made Thursday in Mannar courts in regard to the release of twelve trawlers in connection with six poaching cases by the lawyers Mr. Maha Jabarullah and Mr.M.Sathakathullah on behalf of the Federation of South Indian Fishermen Societies, legal sources said. The Magistrate disallowed the application as no one represented the Sri Lanka Navy and the Sri Lanka Police when the application was taken up for inquiry, legal sources said.
