SEDOT builds Homes for destitute Sambaltivu children

Socio-Economic Development Organization in Trincomalee (SEDOT) funded by the Tamil Welfare Association in Canada has launched a project to run two homes in the Trincomalee district-one at Sambaltivu, north of east port town and other at Mallikaitheivu, south of Muttur division for destitute children affected by war and natural disaster, sources in Trincomalee said.

The construction of a new building for the Muttur Sri Saratha Girls Home has commenced in Mallikaitheivu. Muttur Saratha Girls Home was shifted to Mallikaitheivu from Muttur following civil disturbances. Since then about twenty girls of the home are given shelter in a small house rented out for this purpose in Mallikaitheivu. Now the SEDOT has undertaken to construct a new building for the Saratha Girls Home in Mallikaitheivu. Trincomalee district parliamentarianMr.K.Thurairatnasingham recently laid the foundation stone for the new building. The Saratha Boys Home was opened in Sambaltheivu in a building offered by a well-wisher. Mr.K.Yogananthan, Principal, Sambaltheivu Tamil Maha Vidiyalayam declared open the home. Currently about ten destitute children are given shelter, SEDOT sources said.
