Mother-Child Care centre new building opened in Akkarayan

New building for the Maternity and Child Care Centre was declared open on Wednesday at Akkarayan, which is, located about 20 km off from Killinochchi at eighth milepost. The TRO of Killinochchi district with the funding Norwegian TRO constructed the newly opened building, sources said.
Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) established this centre in cadjan huts on 19.01.2001 to provide nutritious food and medical care to mothers and children affected during the war.
Mr.Sabaratnam, Akkarayan Grama Sevaka Officer and Vice President of the Mother and Child Care Centre presided. Mr.V.Subramaniyam, Secretary of the Killinochchi District Consortium of the Non-Governmental Organizations, Mr.Poongunran, Killinochchi TRO Director, Mr.Vincent, Tsunami disaster Director of TRO and Rev Fr. Sounthararajan of Akkarayan South Indian Diocese lighted the traditional oil lamp, the sources said.
Mr.Thirukumaran, Head of the Martyrs Family Welfare Unit hoisted the Thamileelam national flag and Mr.V.Reagan, Deputy Executive Director of TRO, hoisted TRO flag.
Ms Shiranee Pararajasingham of Australian TRO declared open the new building. Mr.S.Thangan, Deputy Political Head of LTTE declared open the children park in the centre. Mr.Nesarajah, Co-ordinator of the North East
Development and Rehabilitation Organization made the welcome speech.
Amethipurai Parish priest Rev.Fr Jeyabalan, Mr.V.Reagan,
Rev.Fr.Sounthararajan and Mr.Thangan, made keynote addresses. Ms Manjula of Mother and Child Care centre proposed vote of thanks.
Ten beneficiaries of the centre were given four thousand rupees each as self employment incentive on a deposit made by the TRO in their names in the Socio-Economic Development Bank Mr.Thangan, Ms Shiranee
Pararajasingham, Mr.E.Ravi, Mr.Santhalingam, Rev Jeyabalan, Mr.Sivasami, Ms Radhika and Mr Sutharsan handed over the saving books in this regard to the
beneficiaries, the sources said.
"These centers were started at a time to protect our mothers and children from dying without nutritious food and medical care during the war period. Our national leader is very keen that not a single child should die without food and medical care. TRO has contributed immensely to achieve this goal", said Mr.Thangan addressing the gathering.
