Veloor is one of the twenty Grama Niladhari (Village Level Officer) divisions in the Kuchchaveli division in the Trincomalee district. All the 446 families in the village were displaced in the last year tsunami. Eighty-eight men, women and children died in the disaster. Of the displaced 1796 persons of these families 670 were children, according to local government officials. Majority of the houses and the only pre-school building were razed to the ground by deadly waves. Juergen Wahn Stiftung officials visited the village soon after the disaster and took steps to rehabilitate the village. They supplied household implements to victim families, agricultural implements including tractors to farmers and push bicycles to students. A two-storied building for the pre-school is under construction with the funds provided by Juergen Wahn Stiftung.
