Kaluwanchikudy LTTE political office attacked

Unidentified men attacked Kaluwanchikudy political office of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) Friday early morning. At least five hand grenades were lobbed inside the office premises, Kaluwanchikudy police said. Neighbouring residents said that the attackers, fleeing the scene after the attack, entered the Special Task Force (STF) camp located around 100 meters from the scene around 6:00 a.m. Five LTTE political cadres who were in the office narrowly escaped from the attack, LTTE sources said. Doors and windows in the front side of the building and the roof were damaged in the attack, Kaluwanchikudy Police conducting investigations said.

Mr. Selvam Mama, Mr. Sulakshan, Mr. Kattalan, Mr. Samayakananan and Mr. Arulneshan were the LTTE cadres who narrowly escaped from the attack, LTTE's Political co-ordinator for Pattiruppu koddam, Mr. Cholan, told TamilNet.

Shortly before this incident, Periyakallar LTTE political office also came under attack. The name board of the Periyakallar office was removed and dumped on the road, sources said.

LTTE political officials have brought these incidents to the notice of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM), the LTTE Political co-ordinator said.

Kaluwanchikudy town is located 30 km south of Batticaloa.
