Young fisherman abducted and killed in Eravur

Mr. Sivarajah Mariyapalan, 22, a fisherman, was shot in his head and killed by unidentified persons who abducted him Saturday evening at Arumugathankudiyiruppu village in Eravur, Police said. The victim, a resident of the village, went for fishing to Savukkady sea around 9:00 p.m., parents told Eravur Police. The body of the victim was found by his parents Sunday morning behind a bush near St. Anthony's church at Savukkady.

Mr. Mariyapalan was shot with a 9 mm handgun, according to the Eravur Police conducting investigations into the killing.

The reason behind the killing was not clear, according to the Police.

The victim was not associated with any armed or political activities, according to the parents.

Mariyapalan's body was handed over to the mortuary at the Eravur Hospital for post-mortem examination.

Savukkady is 3 km. east of Eravur town which is located 14 km. north of Batticaloa.
