SLA patrols intensify in Thenmaradchchi

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) has intensified its patrols in several areas in Thenmaradchchi division in Jaffna district following an attack on soldiers recently by unidentified men in Mirusuvil area, according to residents. Three soldiers were injured, one critically, in that attack which occured when the soldiers were taking meals to fellow soldiers in a vehicle last week.
Soldiers with clubs and weapons are regularly seen on foot patrol, civil sources said. Soldiers subject Tamil youths in Meesalai, Sarasalai and Allarai areas to severe body checks during day and night, sources said. SLA authorities are reported to have instructed soldiers not to leave their camps unarmed. This instruction was issued following Inuvil and Mirusuvil incidents, sources said.
