GoSL peace secretariat officials visit Jaffna

A team of officials of the Sri Lankan Government's Peace Secretariat Thursday afternoon held a discussion with judicial officers in the Jaffna district regarding the question of maintaining law and order in the district thus enabling to take forward the current peace process.
The discussion mainly centered on the incident that took place at Inuvil recently where a Tamil civilian running a barber saloon was killed in the firing by Sri Lanka Army soldiers. Thereafter an angry mob had killed the Senior Superintendent of Police. Peace Secretariat officials obtained the views of the judicial officers how to avoid such incidents in the future. Dr.Lakshman Kumarasinghe, Chairman of the Law Commission and Ms Niroja Nimalasuriya, Deputy Legal Draftsman of the Government Peace Secretariat participated in the discussion, which lasted for an hour, sources said. Jaffna Magistrate Mr.R.T.Viknarajah and Additional Magistrate Ms Srinithi Nanthasekaran represented the judicial officers in the district, sources said. Peace Secretariat team arrived in Jaffna Wednesday afternoon and held discussion with the monitors of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission in Jaffna. Later they visited the forward defense lines of the Muhamalai army checkpoint and Nagarkovil and held discussions with military officials stationed there on the ground situation.
The team met with Mr. K.Ganesh, Jaffna Government Agent, sources said.
