Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarians Sivanathan Kishor , Sivasakthi Ananthan and Vino Noharathalingam met with Vavuniya Head of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) at the Vavuniya SLMM offices Monday morning, sources in Vavuniya said. The discussion centered on the National Resurgence Event scheduled to take place on the 27th of this month.
Vanni district Head of All Ceylon Tamil Congress party Mr Senthilnathan, President of Vavuniya Resurgence Campaign Mr G Nathan and Secretary Mr Christopher also participated in the discussions. The Tamil delegation requested the members of the SLMM to take steps to ensure that the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and Police officers do not interfere with the preparations for the 27 October resurgence event being organized in co-operation with Tamil people in Vavuniya district. The delegation also pointed out the increasing number of violent incidents in Vavuniya. The TNA members told the SLMM unidentified men who lodged hand grenades inside the houses of Head of People Consortium, Mr Sathasivam Kulathevarajan, and of Mr Gunaratnam were alleged to have escaped through the area where there was heavy presence of Sri Lanka Police and that the SLMM should pressure the Sri Lanka Police to apprehend the assailants. The delegation also said the inability of the Sri Lanka Police to identify the killers of Grama Sevakha, Mr Perera Weerasingham has further alarmed the residents of Vavuniya who are questioning their own security and safety in the district.
