Housing project benefits Muttur east war victims

The first beneficiary of the housing project in Ward No 5 of Sampoor village sponsored by the Social Development Centre (SDC), Ms Veerapaithirar Pagawathipillai, received the keys from Mr.S.Elilan, Trincomalee district political head of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) at an event held Saturday, sources said. The SDC which is implementing a housing project for war affected families in the Muttur east in Trincomalee district, has its head quarters in Kilinochchi.

Each house is constructed at a cost of about Rs: 360,000/= said Mr.G.Niroshan, SDC Director. Mr.Elilan speaking at the event said several non-governmental organizations are only showing interest in implementing relief and reconstruction projects to rehabilitate the lives of tsunami affected families but not the war affected families. He commended the services of the SDC in rehabilitation efforts to the war-affected families in the Muttur east villages. SDC is also implementing several reconstruction and rehabilitation projects in the Wanni region. Ms. Kaaronja, District Political Women Wing, several LTTE officials and village residents participated in the event.
