UNP to oppose new budget
[TamilNet, Monday, 07 November 2005, 15:57 GMT]
The main opposition United National Party (UNP) Monday announced
that it will not accept the Sri Lanka Coalition Government's budget which is to be
tabled in the parliament Tuesday.
"We consider the budget as a mere piece of paper which has no value," said
Mr.Tissa Attanayake, UNP Assistant General Secretary addressing a press
briefing Monday at the office of the Leader of the Opposition.
The ruling party is submitting the budget proposals nine days ahead of the
presidential poll for political gain and to deceive the masses with
false promises. This is also against the election laws, said Mr.Tissa Attanayake. Sri Lanka government led by the new executive president who will be elected on
November poll should submit the budget for next year, Mr.Attanayake said.
