Ven. Ellawala Medananda Thero, the leader of Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU), the all monks Buddhist nationalist party, Monday demanded the Sri Lankan Government to place the country on war alert. Warning that Colombo urgently needs to go on war footing, the Monk urged the SL government to adopt urgent measures to ensure security in Colombo and in southern Sri Lanka.
The JHU press meet was held Monday morning at Buddhist Centre from 10:30 till noon prior to a scheduled meeting of JHU with the Sri Lankan President Mr. Mahinda Rajapakse. Speaking further at the press briefing, Medananda Thero said that the Sri Lanka was going through a turbulent period. Commenting on future talks over the ethnic issue the monk said that the final solution should be entirely based on the President Rajapakse's election manifesto known as "Mahinda Chinthana," the "Mahinda Thinking." The JHU convened the press briefing following Sunday's mine attack in Jaffna where six Sri Lankan soldiers were killed. The Thero chanted sethpirith invoking blessings on the Lankan President under the Srimahabodhi Ankuraya Tree at Temple Trees, said sources at Temple Trees.
