Self-employment assistance centers open in Pooneryn

Opening event for a Sewing Training Center and a Center for Animal Husbandry Training built with financial aid from Danish International Development Agency (DANIDA) and International Labor Organization (ILO) was held in Pooneryn Monday. Planning Director for ILO, Mr Janarthanan presided the event. The Economic Consultancy House (TECH), an NGO working exclusively in the NorthEast on employment generation projects, will adminstrator the two centers.
The ILO and DANIDA provided Rs 400,000 for the construction of the building, Rs 362,000 for the running cost of the Sewing Center and Rs 395,000 for administering the animal husbandry center, officials said. "These two projects will provide vital opportunity for Pooneryn residents to learn sewing, vital self-employment skill, and others to train in cattle raring and related animal husbandry activities to become economically independent," said Assistant Government Agent for Pooneryn, Mr Sriskandarajah speaking at the opening event. Head of the Sea Tigers Political Wing, Mr Amuthan, lit the common flame at the start of the event. Head of Pooneryn LTTE Political Wing, Mr Eehaiventhan hoisted the Tamileelam flag. Executive Director of TECH, Suhunan unveiled the name plate of the Sewing Center. TECH as part of a recent program to help minimize costs in running evening education and cultural programs, distributed nearly 60 solar home systems to schools and community centers in deprived areas of NorthEast.
