Book released on history of Kokuvil Hindu

Past students of Kokuvil Hindu College Jaffna released a book detailing the ninty five year history of the school in an event held at the Subramaniam Hall at 10.30 a.m. Sunday presided by the present Principal of the school Mr P Kamalanathan.
K Ratnapragasam, author of the book, past principals of the school, Mr A Panchalingam and Mr Sudar Mahendran, Rotarian Ms Sivagnanasundaram and Jaffna Campus Head of Commerce Prof K Thevarajah lit the ceremonial flame at the beginning of the event. Mr Panchalingam presented the book author with a golden shawl. K Ketheswaran, President of the Colombo branch of past pupils association gave the book release address. Attorney Ms Sivagnanasundaram and former Jaffna District Goverment Agent T Vaithilingam received special issues of the book at the ceremony. Kokuvil Hindu College was started by Mr E Chelliah and founding teacher Mr N Chellapah in 1910 as an institution in the front porch of Mr K Appakutti's House in Kokuvil. Mr Somaskandar from Thavady looked after the administration of the school as the Principal for the first fifteen years, helping to build the first permanent structure, naming it "Chelliah Hall" in the land donated by Mr Chelliah.
