Trinco district local bodies increased to thirteen

Two more local government bodies, Kinniya Urban Council (UC) and Verugal Pradesiya Sabah (PS), have been carved out in the Trincomalee district bringing the number of such institutions to thirteen, election department sources said.

Of the thirteen local bodies in the district two are Urban Councils and the balance eleven are Pradesiya Sabahs, sources said.

The thirteen local bodies and the number of members in them are: Trincomalee UC (12 members), Kinniya UC (07), Verugal PS (07), Seruvila PS (09) Kantalai PS(11), Morawewa PS (09), Gomarankadawela PS (09), Padavi Siripura PS (09), Trincomalee Town and Gravets PS (09), Kuchchaveli PS (09), Thambalakamam PS (09), Muttur PS (11), and Kinniya PS (07).

Newly formed Verugal PS is located in the Liberation Tigers controlled Eachilampathu Assistant Government Agent's Division, south of Trincomalee district. Most of the Tamil villages in the Muttur PS are also located in the LTTE controlled Muttur east, sources said
