Remembrance day for slain students held in Trincomalee

Forty-fifth day remembrance of five Tamil students shot dead by State armed forces in execution style close to the Trincomalee beach on January 2nd this year was held at the same location Wednesday morning attended by large number of students, parents, teachers and members of public. The Trincomalee District Tamil Peoples' Forum and Students' Association organized the event, sources in Trincomalee said.

Photographs of five students, and other Tamil civilians including Sudar Oli journalist killed in Trincomalee were kept on a special dais. The surroundings were decorated with yellow and red flags. Relatives and religious leaders of all faiths paid their respects to the slain students and Tamil civilians by offering flowers to the photographs, sources said. Five candles were lit at the site where five students met with their death, sources said. Mr.V.Vigneswaran, President of the Trincomalee District Tamil Peoples' Forum presided over the event.
Mr.M.K.Eelaventhan, Jaffna district TNA parliamentarian also participated, sources said. Soldiers of the Sri Lanka Navy were withdrawn from the site while the remembrance event being held. More police personnel were posted to the area to provide security, sources said.
