UNP Colombo list rejected

Sri Lanka’s election office has rejected the nomination list submitted by the main opposition United National Party (UNP) to contest Colombo Municipal Council. The nominations closed on Thursday noon at 12.

The list was rejected because at least one of the candidates was not over 18 years of age on 1 June 2004.

UNP sources said that the party is considering taking legal action.

Sirisena Cooray was nominated as UNP's Mayoral candidate to 53-member Colombo Municipal Council.
