Aussie assisted pre-school opens in Vakarai

A pre-school constructed by the Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) at Kandalady, a village in the Vakarai division in Batticaloa district, and funded by a group of Australian citizenst a cost of about one million rupees, was declared open Wednesday.

Mr.Gopal, TRO Vakarai co-ordinator presided the event. Mr.Theepan, LTTE Vakarai political head, hoisted the national flag and Mr.S.Elilan, LTTE Trincomalee district political head declared open the building. An Australian citizen representing the sponsors unveiled the name board of the pre-school. About thirty children were admitted to the pre-school on the first day, sources said. Kandalady is one of the tsunami-affected villages in the division. About six hundred families, majority of them under poverty line are living in the village, civil sources said.
