Mr.Selvam Adaikalanathan, Wanni district Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian has written to the President to take steps to implement the assurance given Health Minister Nimal Siripala de Silva that in future youths who obtained pass in science subject in the (GCE O/L) examination will be allowed to apply for admission to Nurse Training School. Current admission policy requires students to pass in Science subjects in GCE A/L examination, sources said.
Youths in Wanni district who have passed GCE O/L examination were disappointed when they learnt that February issue of gazette failed to include the amended admission policy. Instead the Gazette notification stated that applicants needed passes in three science subjects in the GCE A/L/ examination, Mr.Adaikalanathan stated in his letter. Mr Adaikalanathan in his letter appealed to the Minister to withdraw the latest gazette notification and reissue the amended policy for admission so that youths in deprived areas could also get the opportunity to enter Nurses Training School this year. The letter was copied to fellow parliamentarians of the Wanni district, sources said.
