New military spokesman

Major General Sarath Munasinghe, former Sri Lankan military spokesman, has been appointed as the new Commanding Officer (CO) of the Elephant Pass base in the northern province, said defence sources in Colombo.
 According to SLA sources, Brig. Munasinghe had joined the SLA in 1969 and been commissioned 1970. He had served as an artillery officer; commanding the 6th Anti-Aircraft Regiment, they said. He had later commanded the SLA's 6th Brigade in Weli Oya (Manal Aaru), and held the post of Acting General Officer Commanding (GOC) of Division 3 in 1997, the sources said. Meanwhile, Brigadier Thennakoon, director of Army Intelligence, has been appointed as the new military spokesman, the sources added.
