Candidates competing in the Vavuniya district local council elections under the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchchi (ITAK) ticket met with Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarians in Vavuniya Hindu Youths Hall Thursday, sources in Vavuniya said.
Elections may still held even though Commissioner of Elections has been requested to postpone the local elections in the NorthEast by several civil society organizations, said TNA parliamentarian Sivanathan Kishore. Sivasakthi Ananthan, another TNA parliamentarian, talking to the election candidates said that they should make all preparations for the elections. In a meeting held earlier between the candidates and the Officer in Charge of Vavuniya Police, M Tennekoon, police officials briefed the candidates on the procedures to be followed during the propaganda meetings leading towards the elections, sources said.
