Threats to Vavuniya traders must be stopped, MP tells Rajapakse

Mr.Selvam Adaikalanathan, Wanni district Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian has appealed to Sri Lanka's President Mahinda Rajapakse to take immediate steps to disarm persons intimidating members of the business community in Vavuniya district with death threats and extortion, sources in Vavuniya said.
Mr. Adaikalanathan sent a letter to the President with copies to the Defense Secretary, Commander of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA), Commander of the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN), Inspector General of Police and the Deputy Inspector of Police in Vavuniya district. Armed persons are seen freely roaming the streets of Vavuniya and this needs to be stopped immediately, the letter said. "Please create an environment where traders of Vavuniya can carry out their business freely and without any fear," Mr.Adaikalanathan further said in his letter.
