Mr.K.Thurairatnasingham, Trincomalee district Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarian in a statement issued on Tuesday condemned the continued attack by the Sri Lanka Navy on the coastal villages Soodaikuda, Koonitivu, Sampoor and Kadatkaraichchenai for the second day Tuesday from about 11 a.m. Two students of the Sampoor Maha Vidiyalayam are reported injured in the second day attack by the SLN, according to reports he received from Muttur east civilian sources, Mr.Thurairatnasingham said.
People in these villages are living in fear. Pieces of shells and bullets have fallen on the relocated Soodaikuda village 200 meters away from the old Soodaikuda village, which is located within about 100 meters from the shore, Mr.Thurairatnasingham said in the statement. Entire families in the old village were displaced following tsunami. He said the Government of Sri Lanka should take immediate steps to stop this unwanted attacks on civilians at a time when the second round of peace talk between the GOSL and LTTE is scheduled to be held in April in Geneva. These provocative acts of the State armed forces would certainly derail the peace process if the government fails to stop such attacks in the future, he added.
