Annai Poopathi death anniversary final event begins in Muttur east

The final three-day of death anniversary of Annai Poopathi who fast to death demanding the Indian government to stop war against Liberation Tigers and to hold talks with them, began in Ganeshapuram Central College in Muttur east Monday. Hundreds of women observed a day of fasting in memory of Annai Poopathi. Annai Poopathi passed away after a month long fasting on April 19, eighteen years ago.

The event began with Sivasiri Selvaratnakurukkal lighting the common flame of sacrifice. Ms Kaaronja, LTTE Trincomalee District Women Political Wing Head lit the flame of sacrifice and garlanded the photograph of Annai Poopathi. Mr.Theepan, Trincomalee district head of the Thamileelam Sport Department hoisted the Thamileelam national flag.

Mr.S.Elilan, LTTE Trincomalee district political head and Mr.S.Mathialagan, Principal spoke at the event.

Elilan speaking at the event said, "Memory of Annai Poopathy has a permanent mark in the history of our struggle. She sacrificed her life for the freedom struggle of her people renouncing her life as a head of a household. Her sacrifice symbolized the uprising of Tamil eelam motherhood."
