Two civilians killed in Mannar claymore attack

Two Tamil civilians were killed in the LTTE controlled area in Mannar district Saturday afternoon around 2.30 p.m., when their motorbike hit a claymore mine fixed in a tree by Deep Penetration Unit of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) and collaborating paramilitaries. They were traveling from Pandivirichchan to Aandankulam to their worksite where they were employed as masons, sources said.
The dead were identified as Thambiah Gunanayagam aged 21 of Periyapanddivirichchan, Madhu Kovil, and Loganathan Chandra Perumal aged 21 of Periyapanddivirichchan, Madhu Kovil. The incident took place at Parapukadanthan, Madhu Kovil road, 2 km from Madhu Church, sources said. Thamileelam Police and LTTE cadres launched a search operation in the area immediately. Members of the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) in Mannar rushed to the site and began investigation, sources said.
