Specialist shortage at Jaffna Hospital

[TamilNet, Monday, 20 July 1998, 23:59 GMT]
Services to sick children are being comprimised by the lack of qualified pediatricians at the Jaffna Hospital, said Dr (Ms) Sivasangary of the hospital. The severe shortage of specialists is not a problem specific to pediatrics but exists in other specialities too, she added.

A group of young doctors, newly passed out, is to be posted at the hospital soon.

But they will not resolve the primary problem which is a want of specialists, she said.

Dr. Sivasangary was full of praise for the Relief and Rehabilitation Authority of the North (RRAN) which had donated a freezer to the blood bank at the Jaffna Hospital for the storage of blood.
