Muttur PS is the only local government institution in the country administered by an independent group.

In the election held on March 30 for the Muttur PS, the independent group led by former Trincomalee district Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) parliamentarian Mr.K.M.Thowfeek captured seven out of the eleven seats. The rest went to the ITAK, sources said.
