Self-defense training to Mannar civilians

Cadres of Liberation Tigers are providing two week-self defense training to about 270 Tamil civilians in Arippu in the LTTE controlled territory in the Mannar district, sources from Mannar said. The training which began on May 3rd is to conclude on May 18, according to sources.

The self-defense training includes preparedness and techniques to confront attacks of deep penetration unit (DPU) of the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) in the LTTE territory, sources said.

Several incidents of claymore explosions allegedly set off by members of the DPU have occured in LTTE controlled areas of Mannar district in the past several weeks.
