SLA interrogates 300, detains one youth in Valaichenai round-up

A 26-year old youth has been detained by the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers during a cordon and search operation conducted by the SLA and Sri Lanka Police in the villages of Vinayagapuram, Pandimadu, Kalmadu and Kannankiramam in Valaichenai Police division at 5:30 A.m. Monday morning, police sources in Valaichenai said.

SLA and Police conducted house-to-house search and took more than 300 men to the Kalmadu SLA camp for additional interrogation. They have detained Kaliyappu Ravindran from Vinayagapuram, at the camp, Valaichenai residents said.

The 300 men were paraded in front of masked men belonging to Karuna group during the interrogations at the Kalmadu camp, sources said.

Valaichenai is located 32 km north of Batticaloa town.
