SL Police officer shot, injured in Mandur

Unidentified gunmen shot and injured Police officer, M.W.Luxman, 35, in Mandur, Batticaloa at 7:30 p.m. Saturday near the Batticaloa-Amparai border area, police sources said. The incident took place near the Vellavely Sri Lanka Army (SLA) camp.
Two gunmen were involved in the attack. The elite counter insurgency troopers of the Special Task Force, were present at the site when the attack took place, police said. The injured police officer was first admitted to Mandur hospital and later transferred to Batticaloa Teaching Hospital in critical condition, medical sources said. Meanwhile, Kalmunai police said a road clearing patrol of the SLA recovered a claymore mine in Pandiruppu, Naippattimunai at 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
