Trinco Rotary Club gets new President

Mr. J.W.M. Borham was appointed as the 28th President of Trincomalee Rotary Club for the year 2006-2007 Saturday at an event held at Trincomalee Rotary House with Sri Lanka's Rotary District Governor Mr.Bobby Senaweera as the chief guest and Rev.Fr.C.P.Rajendran, Rector of the Trincomalee Campus of the Eastern University as the Guest of Honour, sources said.

 Trincomalee Rotarians receive Sri Lanka Rotary District Governor Mr.Bobby Senaweera and Trincomalee University Campus Rector Rev.Fr. Rajendram ( both with garlands) when they arrive to participate at the new President installation event.
Mr.A.Z.J.Singarayer, outgoing President, welcomed the new President. At the commencement of the event, Mr.Bobby Senaweera, his wife Ms Nina and Rev Fr.Rajendram were received by the Trincomalee Rotarians and Annes. The District Governor lit the traditional oil lamp and was followed by other leading Rotarians. Rotarian Fr.George Dissanayake read out the pledge. Outgoing Secretary Mr.R, Rajarammohan read out the report of activities for the term of 2005-2006. He said during the period under the community service project Trincomalee Rotary Club in its landmark achievement had constructed eighty houses for resettled families in Villankulam village. These villagers were displaced due to ethnic violence in the year 1983 and sought refuge in the UNHCR refugee camp in Allesgarden for nearly 22 years. They were affected second time due to tsunami in 2004 when the waves destroyed the refugee camp. Several rehabilitation and development projects had been implemented for tsunami affected families in the district, he added. Rotarian G.Thavakumar was appointed as the new Secretary of the club. The Trincomalee Rotary Club was founded in 1979.
