Grenade attack injures one SL Police in Mannar

One Sri Lanka police constable, Mr.Vithanavasa, was injured when unidentified men lobbed a grenade at the police sentry point located in the premises of Telecommunications station in the heart of Mannar town Tuesday night around 7.15 p.m. In the retaliatory fire by the police two Tamil civilians were injured, civil sources said.
The injured civilians have been identified S.Thiruchelvam, 52, and his wife Mariyanayagi, 46, who have been running a grocery store in front of Telecom station, sources said. All three injured were admitted to the Mannar general hospital, hospital sources said. The police fired in retaliation of the attack for about ten minutes.
Tension prevailed in the town following the incident, sources said. The security forces immediately launched cordon and search operation and arrested five Tamil youths in Pankatikotu area, sources said.
