SLA soldier shot, injured in Batticaloa

Unidentified gunmen shot and injured a Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldier in Saththukondan, Batticaloa-Trincomalee road at 7:40 a.m., Wednesday near the Saththurukundan SLA camp, security sources said.

The gunmen came in a motor bike and opened fire with a pistol, sources said.

The injured SLA soldier Lance Copral M.Karunarathna, 29, is getting treated at the Saththurukondan SLA Camp, sources said.

Batticaloa police said the SLA and Sri Lanka Police patrolled the area after the attack as a convey buses took soldiers on leave to polannaruwa at 11:00 am.

Sathurukondan is located 3 km north of Batticaloa Town.
