Firefight in Kilali seas

Two attack crafts belonging to Sri Lanka Navy (SLN) and a Sea Tiger craft exchanged fire in Kilali seas at 1:15 p.m. for more than 15 minutes Tuesday. Sri Lanka Army said a Sea Tiger dinghy with 4 members on it was destroyed during the confrontation. The Liberation Tigers have not commented on the incident yet.

Defence Ministry sources said that no SLN personnel was hurt and their crafts did not suffer any damages in the sea encounter.

The sea engagement was triggered when the SLN crafts were dispatched to investigate the suspicious movement of a craft in the Kilali sea stretch, the sources said.

SLN soldiers are involved in security duty in Kilaly, as part of Sri Lanka's Forward Defense Line (FDL) forces stretching from Nagarkovil to Muhamalai, extending to Kilali.
