Paramilitary gunmen kill youth in Valaichchenai

Paramilitary gunmen who entered the house of a Tsunami survivor settled at Kalkudah, Paddiyadichenai in Valaichchenai, 29 km north of Batticaloa town, Saturday night, shot the victim dead on the road around 2:00 a.m. Sunday. Police recovered the dead body, riddled with 11 bullets from a T-56 automatic rifle, and identified the victim as Arumugam Kalakaran, 23.

Kalakaran's body has been handed over to his relatives after postmortem examinations, Valaichchenai hospital sources said.

Kalakaran's house is located 200 meters away from the GTZ office in Paddiyadichenai.

Valaichchenai police is conducting investigations into the killing.

Paramilitary cadres, on Saturday, had questioned and harassed the civilians at Kalmadu and had fired shots in the air, villagers said.
