SLA soldier killed in Bicycle-Claymore, 2 wounded in Jaffna

A Sri Lanka Army soldier riding in bicycle Monday noon was killed when a Claymore mine attached to a parked bicycle exploaded on Vaitheewara Road in Jaffna town around 1:00 p.m. Monday. Two SLA troopers were seriously wounded, Police said. Four civilians sustained injuries, one seriously, by explosion and when the soldiers fired indiscriminately after the attack. The soldiers were on their way to supply meals to the SLA checkposts when they came under attack.
The wounded soldiers were airlifted to Palaly military hospital. Addtional SLA troopers were rushed to the site and a cordon and search operation was launched. All traffic remained blocked after the attack and during the search operation, civilian sources said. Civilians injured were identified as:
- Joseph Sasiraj, 23, Sivan Pannai Road, Jaffna,
- S. Sangilithevar, 53, Sivankovil North Road, Jaffna,
- Sivam Indrakumar, 50, Kannathiddi Junction, Jaffna, and
- Kumaran, 27, KKS Road, Jaffna.
