TRO officer assaulted by SLA troops in Jaffna

Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldiers severly assaulted a Tamil Rehabilitation Organization (TRO) officer at Varani, northeast of Jaffna twon, Thursday, TRO officials said. The TRO field-officer was blind-folded, taken inside an army bunker located within the premises of a SLA mini-camp at Thaavalai Iyatalai area, and was assaulted, according to a complaint made by the TRO's District Office with the Human Rights Commission in the northern peninsula.

The soldiers confiscated the ID-card before releasing the TRO officer, according to the complaint.

The TRO worker was on an official mission when he was assaulted, the complaint further said.
