Youth shot dead, two injured in Jaffna

Unidentified men riding a motobike shot and killed a youth at Punnalaikadduvan south, around 6 p.m., Tuesday, sources in Jaffna said. Two others were seriously injured in the shooting. Local residents blamed the paramilitary operatives collaborating with the Sri Lanka Army (SLA) for the shooting. Residents said the SLA soldiers were searching for the three youths and that the three had been assaulted by Sri Lanka Armed forces earlier.

The incident occured while the three were talking to each other at the Aayatkadai hospital road, residents said.

The young man who was killed in the incident was identified as Sriskandarajah Lavan, 24, of Punnalaikkadduvan.

The injured were identified as Murukaiah Sivanandan, 31, and Kathriththamby Murukesan, 27.

The injured were taken to Jaffna Teaching Hospital.
