SLA soldier killed, trooper, policeman injured

A Sri Lanka Army (SLA) soldier was killed and another was injured in an attack at Kokkuveli in Thandikkulam, 5 km. north of Vavuniya, police in the northern town said. Further west, in a separate incident, a policeman was injured in a grenade attack at a sentry post at Kattukaraikulam Reservoir along Mannar-Uyilankulam road, around 7.10 a.m, Wednesday, police in Mannar said.

The injured Police constable, Joseph Fernando, 40, was admitted to the Mannar general hospital around 8.30 a.m. Later he was transferred to Anuradhapura general hospital, medical sources said.

Sri Lanka Army and police launched a combined cordon and search operation in the vicinity of the attack at Kattukarai, sources said.
