Man shot dead in Trinco, grenade attack in Mannar town

A Tamil civilian was shot dead by unidentified men at Chinabay, about 9 k.m. southwest of Trincomalee, along Kinniya-Trincomalee road, around 7 p.m., Wednesday.
M.Sivakumar, 34, father of two, was shot dead at his home, police sources said. Meanwhile, a policeman and a civilian passer-by were injured when unidentified men lobbed a grenade at the police party in front of the public library building in Mannar town centre, around 9.35 a.m., Thursday, police sources in the north-western town said.
The injured police constable, Mr.R.M.Pushpakumara, 26, and the girl, J.Tharshini, 20, were admitted to Mannar general hospital. Later the police constable was transferred to the Anuradhapuram general hospital,
medical sources said. Tension prevailed in Mannar bazaar till noon following the explosion, civilian sources said.
