The body of Thiyagalingam Senthan, 16, a student from Karainagar who was reported missing from 24th July by his parents, was found with gunshot wounds his residence in the Jaffna islet Friday, sources in Kayts said. A handgun, about 50 unused rounds, and a waist belt were found near his body, Kayts police said.
After detecting a foul odor, local residents discovered the body about 100 meters from Senthan's residence in a desolate area behind an abandoned house, sources said. Kayts District Court Judge, Jayaraman Trotsky, conducted inquiries at the crime scene, and directed Kayts police to hand over the body to the Jaffna Teaching Hospital for postmortem examinations, legal sources said. Recently a complaint had been filed with the Jaffna District Human Rights Commission that Senthan, brandishing a hand gun, had threatened a local girl with death. The girl's parents said in their complaint that although they had registered their complaint with Kayts Police and the Sri Lanka Navy (SLN), no action was taken on the youth. Area where the killing took place is within a High Security Zone (HSZ) and sources speculate that the youth was collaborating with the SLN
