Jaffna Bishop's silver jublee commemorated

Special prayers were conducted at the Jaffna Holy Mother Mary Church to celebrated the 25 years of service to the Catholic Community and to the Jaffna residents by Jaffna Bishop Rev Father Thomas Saundaranayagam at 3:30 p.m. Sunday, sources from Jaffna said.
The Bishop was taken in a procession to the Church followed by thousands of residents of Jaffna district and other catholic clergymen and clergywomen, sources said. Pope's special envoy in Sri Lanka, Bishop Mario Kent, Bishop of Colombo and President of Catholic Bishops Conference, Bishop Lyoni Fernando, Trincomalee Bishop, Vincent Swampillai, and Mannar Bishop, Rayappu Joseph, were present at the occassion, sources said. Tamil National Alliance (TNA) parliamentarians Maavai Senathirajah, M.K. Eelaventhan and K Sivajilingam, and Upcountry Peoples Front (UPF) parliamentarian Rathakrishnan also participated in the prayers at the Church. Jaffna district Government Agent, K Ganesh, Vice Chancellor of Jaffna Campus, Prof. Kumaravadivel, Jaffn District Municipal Commissioner, CVK Sivagnanam, staff of Jaffna Campus and several Government Officials also attended the event.
