Homeguard injured in Vavuniya grenade attack

A homeguard was seriously injured in a grenade attack by unidentified assailants on a group of Sri Lanka Police which was on a road patrol in Kurumankadu in the heart of Vavuniya town at 7.10 p.m. Sunday, sources in Vavuniya said. The injured homeguard was admitted to the Vavuniya Teaching Hospital, hospital sources said.

Vavuniya Police recovered another live hand-grenade at the scene of the attack and this was disabled by the bomb-disposal squad, police said.

Vavuniya police is conducting investigations.

Kurumankadu area was deserted for more than two hours after the grenade attack, local residents said.
