Teacher-training college to be established in Mannar

[TamilNet, Friday, 27 October 2006, 15:42 GMT]
Education Ministry has given permission to establish a teacher-training college in Mannar district, said Mannar Zonal Education Officer Alfred Ragal. Wanni district parliamentarian Selvam Adaikalanathan had been urging the Education Ministry and North East Provincial Education Ministry for a teacher-training college for Mannar district to facilitate non-trained teachers in their own area.

NEPC Education Ministry has taken steps to allocate about 25 acre for the establishment of the college in Mannar. The identified land would be released to the authority through the Mannar Government Agent, added Zonal Education Officer.

A teacher-training college has been functioning in the Jaffna district. Mannar has been selected for the second teacher-training college in the Northern Province.

Selvam Adaikalanathan has thanked the Education Ministry and NEPC Education Ministry and relevant authorities for the decision to establish the college in Mannar.
